The castle of Quérigut appears for the first time in the archives in 1208 as it became, together with the one of Usson and the whole land of Donezan , a fief of the Count of Foix.

Its origin is scarcely known and there still are no reasons known to us why a second stronghold was built so close to the keep of Usson. Was it destined to protect the southern country from the Catalan invasions ? Nonetheless, a village grew around it, the people who used to live then around Saint Felix, a very old hamlet near Quérigut, migrated up to the feet of the new keep.

Today, only a tower is left, out of the whole fortress which was once as large as that of Usson. In 1709 there was a handful of men to watch over it under the command of a mere sergeant.
